These are software that simplifies the process of reference management by allowing the user to collect, store, and organize references, insert citations at the appropriate place in the body of the manuscript or work, and generate a list of the references in an appropriately formatted bibliographic style.
Reference Managers (RM) allow the user to:
1. import citations from bibliographic databases and websites
2. gather metadata from PDF files
3. organize citations within the RM database
4. annotate citations
5. share RM database or portions thereof with colleagues
6. interchange data with other RM products through standard metadata formats (e.g., RIS, BibTeX)
7. produce formatted citations in a variety of styles
8. work with word processing software to facilitate in-text citation
9. reduce the chances of losing his/her work
10. collaborate with other researchers.
University of Ghana subscribes to two (2) reference management software programs, namely EndNote and Mendeley. These software programs are designed to assist users in organising materials, citations, and generating automatic reference lists and bibliographies.
