Welcome to the UNDL Guide

In order to make its documents and publications available throughout the World, the United Nations (UN) maintains a system of depository libraries to which UN documents and publications are sent under specified conditions. The Balme Library as a major research library located in the capital city of Ghana, Accra is one of the two UN Depository Libraries in the Country. The Balme Library became an UN Depository Library since April 1963 with Depository Libray Number, DL-162.

Regular publications received in this Library are the UN publications in the English language and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) masthead documents. Presently, most UN publications may be accessed online at no cost from the UN Website.

Topics covered include statistics, international peace and security, social and economic development, international law, human rights, international trade and public health. Users can search content by subject, region, category, language, publication date and agency.

The general public may consult both print and electronic materials at the Balme Library with assistance from a librarian.

The United Nations collection is located on the ground floor, east, close to the main entrance.
